Hooray! I hope this means Ohio has had an epiphany on passenger rail.

Did they recall Kasich or something? No epiphany until he's out of there.

And even with these plans, I am of the sentiment "believe-it-when-you-see-it" given the recent political climate in Ohio. What about the proposed West Shore Line between Cleveland and Lorain, and possibly on to Sandusky (the town, not the infamous Penn State guy)? It doesn't seem much closer despite the fact it's been hashed around for a longer number of years. http://www.ridewestshore.com/

Story is here. The Ohio Department of Transportation has awarded $200,000 to be used for the Downtown portion of the Eastern Corridor transit rail project, Hamilton County commissioner Todd Portune said.
Admittedly I've never seen this before, but there is a whole map of commuter rail, light rail, and streetcar lines proposed for the Cincinnati area. This one to Milford happens to be commuter rail, but en route it crosses a light rail corridor.
The map is here. A little confusing to read in black & white; I'd like to see it in color.

Cincinnati passenger-rail plan advances with funding, preferred alignment decisions
Cincinnati-area passenger-rail proponents got a boost last week with the announcement of two approvals that will help set the stage for the introduction of an operational passenger-rail system as early as 2016.
This is your story.

The plan will use existing rail systems and add a light commuter rail system to connect points east with downtown.
What is "light commuter rail?"
BTW, despite goofs by ODoT mentioned in the article, it looks like Eastern Corridor is continuing toward eventual development.

Oasis Rail Transit bound for Cincinnati region
For the first time since 1988, Cincinnati will play host to the 2015 MLB All-Star Game. And by that time, the Greater Cincinnati area could have a rail service, Oasis Rail Transit, which would be part of the Eastern Corridor program of multi-modal transportation improvement projects.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is considering whether and how to build a commuter rail line from downtown Cincinnati to Fairfax to Milford, and it wants to know what you think.

East Side Commuter Rail Project in Doubt Following Vote to Develop Oasis Line as Trail
The fate of a long-planned commuter rail line along the eastern riverfront took an abrupt turn over the past month. With the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) Board voting 12-1 in favor of a plan to use it for the Ohio River Trail, it puts a severe damper on one day using it as commuter rail to the city’s eastern suburbs.
