Two-day strike by French workers to disrupt train service

 

 

PARIS (AP) — France's national train company is warning that a workers' strike will disrupt train service within France and elsewhere in Europe on Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

SNCF said in a statement on Sunday that only 15 percent of high-speed trains and 25 percent of regional trains would be running on April 3-4 due to the strike.

 

The company says one in three trains between France and Germany and 75 percent of Eurostar trains between Paris and London will be operating.

French government offers to absorb '€35 billion of railway debt' to end strike

 

 

The French government has agreed to absorb €35 billion in debt from the state railway SNCF, a top union official said Friday, as it seeks an end to nearly two months of strikes.
 

Luc Berille, the head of the UNSA union, said that the state had proposed taking on 35 billion euros (41 billion dollars) of the SNCF's 46 billion euros of debt, starting with 25 billion as soon as 2020.

Train services hit as French rail unions vow to continue strike action

 

 

Train services were hit in France once again on Monday morning due to the latest two day rail strike. Unions have vowed to continue to the action to keep up the pressure on the government. Could the strikes run on into the summer holidays?

 

Rail passengers faced more cancellations and disruptions on Monday with TGV, regional TER and Intercité train services all hit by the latest two-day strike.
