We won't quite have 48 hours in Vancouver, but there may very well be some spare time. This article has some nice things to do within and just outside the city. To their credit, they do mention the Canada Line, and even the extra Amtrak frequency!

Not too cold in the winter. Not too hot in the summer. Always wise to keep an eye out for rain.
