Amtrak Service Disruption North of Los Angeles Continues

 

Track closures in the area due to wildfires

5:00 p.m. PT

 

Amtrak service will remain suspended, Friday, Dec.8, between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo, due to wildfires in the area. There is no alternate transportation. Track closures continue between Ventura and Santa Barbara. Pacific Surfliner and Coast Starlight trains are affected. Pacific Surfliner service between Los Angeles and San Diego continues to operate normally. 

 

Amtrak regrets any inconvenience. This information is correct as of the above time and date. Information is subject to change as conditions warrant.

 

Anyone can subscribe to automated email or text message notifications if Amtrak trains are behind schedule at specific stations.                 Amtrak stops train service between SLO and Los Angeles as wildfires rage
 

Central Coast travelers planning to use the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train to head south will need to change their itineraries.

 

The Thomas Fire burning in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties interrupted coastal train service on Thursday, according to the Pacific Surfliner’s Twitter page.

Trains disrupted due to wildfires

6:50 p.m. PT

 

Amtrak will resume regular, scheduled service on Sunday, Dec. 10, for trains suspended due to wildfires in Southern California.

 

Returning to service will be the Coast Starlight Train 11 (Seattle - Los Angeles) and Train 14 (Los Angeles - Seattle), and the Pacific Surfliner trains operating from San Luis Obispo to San Diego. The trains will not stop in Santa Barbara as the station will remain closed on Dec. 10. No alternate transportation will be provided for this station stop.

 

Pacific Surfliner Train 768 will operate from Los Angeles to San Diego. No alternate transportation will be provided.

Thomas fire suspends part of Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner service, shuts resorts in Ojai and Santa Barbara

 

Amtrak’s rail service between Oxnard and San Luis Obispo on its popular Pacific Surfliner route continues to be shut Tuesday because of the Thomas fire raging in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Pacific Surfliner & Coast Starlight

 

Amtrak plans to operate nearly all scheduled Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains between Los Angeles and points north this Saturday, Dec. 16. The full schedule is planned for this Sunday, Dec. 17.

 

Full service between Los Angeles and Seattle is also restored for the Amtrak Coast Starlight, effective in both directions this Saturday, Dec. 16.

 

Amtrak thanks the emergency responders and the railroads that host these Amtrak trains for their work to reopen these routes and restore service following wildfires. Residual delays are possible in the affected areas.

Amtrak train resume service after Thomas Fire cancellations

 

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - UPDATE:

 

Friday afternoon Pacific Surfliner tweeted that passenger train service will resume Saturday the 16th between Oxnard, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo stations.

 

This includes service to all intermediate stations such as Surf Beach and Goleta.

 

Amtrak has shut down its train and bus services south of Santa Barbara due to the Thomas Fire.
