Man busted with loaded gun, body armor at Union Station

 

 

A duffel bag left unattended at Union Station led to the arrest of a California man who was in possession of a loaded handgun, body armor and SWAT equipment believed to be stolen from the New York City Police Department, prosecutors said Saturday.

 

A judge ordered Isaiah Malailua, of Redding, Calif., held on $100,000 bail during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

 

mtrak police found the bag at the station in the 200 block of South Canal Street just before 9:30 a.m. Friday, prosecutors said. Canine officers were called in and authorities discovered police SWAT patches inside, as well as a Greyhound ticket with Malailua’s name on it, prosecutors said.

Man brought gun, stolen NYPD SWAT gear into Chicago’s Union Station: prosecutors

 

 

A man who was armed with a loaded gun and was wearing a bulletproof vest on Friday at Union Station had stolen a New York Police Department duffle bag full of SWAT equipment, according to Cook County prosecutors.

 

Isaiah Malailva, 21, was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon with body armor, court documents show.

 

Malailva; of Redding, California; was arrested at 9:30 a.m. at the Loop station at 225 S. Canal St., after police dogs sniffed explosive residue in the unattended bag, prosecutors said.
