Most Amtrak Trains Restored Between Washington And Boston
Full Acela Express schedule between Washington and Boston, most Northeast Regional trains and most overnight services in the East Coast to operate this Wednesday

Amtrak is restoring much of the service along the East Coast, with a full Acela Express schedule between Washington and Boston, and most Northeast Regional trains between Richmond/Lynchburg/Washington and Boston, effective Wednesday, August 31. Engineering teams have made repairs to restore service after flooding between Philadelphia and New York, subject to residual delays near Trenton, N.J.

Also available now for booking are most of the Empire Service trains between New York and Albany/Rensselaer, the Adirondack (Trains 68 & 69) between New York and Montreal and all of the Keystone Service trains between Harrisburg and Philadelphia (most continuing to New York). All of the Shuttle trains between New Haven, Conn., and Springfield, Mass., will now operate. As previously planned, the Vermonter (Trains 55 & 56) will operate between Washington and Springfield, Mass.

Earlier, Amtrak announced the Auto Train operating between Sanford, Fla., and Lorton, Va., will resume on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Service will also resume on that date for the full New York-Miami routes of the Silver Star (Trains 91 & 92) and Silver Meteor (Trains 97 & 98) and the full New York-Atlanta-New Orleans route of the Crescent (Trains 19 & 20).

Service remains suspended for these routes or segments:

* Northeast Regional trains west of Richmond (Staples Mill) to and from Newport News, Va.
* Empire Service trains east of Albany/Rensselaer, to and from Buffalo/Niagara Falls
* Lake Shore Limited (Trains 48/448 & 49/449), Chicago-New York/Boston * Cardinal (Trains 50 & 51), east of Indianapolis, to and from Washington/New York
* Maple Leaf (Trains 63 & 64), east of Niagara Falls, to and from Albany/New York
* Carolinian (Trains 79 & 80) between New York and Selma-Smithfield, N.C.
* Palmetto (Trains 89 & 90), New York-Savannah
* Ethan Allen Express (Trains 290 & 291), New York-Rutland, Vt.

Wednesday evening update:

Additional Amtrak Service Restored
Ethan Allen, Lake Shore Limited, Carolinian and Cardinal to operate full schedule on Thursday; Palmetto to operate on Friday

Amtrak has restored additional service for Thursday, Sept. 1 with the Ethan Allen Express (New York – Rutland, Vt.; alternate transportation provided between Albany, NY and Rutland, Vt.), Lake Shore Limited (Chicago – New York/Boston), Carolinian (New York – Charlotte, N.C.), and the Cardinal (New York – Chicago) all operating as scheduled. The Palmetto (New York – Savannah) will operate starting Friday, Sept. 2.

In addition, starting on Thursday, the Keystone Service will operate all scheduled service between Harrisburg, Philadelphia and New York.

Amtrak has restored service to much of the East Coast, including Acela Express between Washington and Boston, most Northeast Regional trains between Richmond/Lynchburg/Washington and Boston and some Empire Service between Albany/Rensselaer and New York.

Amtrak will operate full schedules for the Maple Leaf (New York to and from Toronto) and Empire Service (New York to and from Albany/Rensselaer) starting Friday, Sept. 2. Additional Empire Service will operate (New York to and from Niagara Falls) on Saturday, Sept. 3, with full Empire Service (New York to and from Buffalo/Niagara Falls) starting Sunday, Sept. 4. Please note, Amtrak will operate a modified Sunday schedule due to the Labor Day holiday.

With the operation of these two services, Amtrak has restored most service to much of the East Coast affected by Hurricane Irene.

The only service segment remains suspended is Northeast Regional trains east of Richmond (Staples Mill) to and from Newport News, Va. This service is anticipated to return to full operation on Saturday, Sept. 3.

Amtrak site, update midday Friday 9/2/11:

All Amtrak East Coast Service Restored
Full service restored on all lines by Sunday following damage from Hurricane Irene

Starting Saturday, Sept. 3, Empire Service will operate (New York to and from Niagara Falls) with full Empire Service (New York to and from Buffalo/Niagara Falls) starting Sunday, Sept. 4.

In addition, on Saturday, Sept. 3, Northeast Regional trains will operate full service east of Richmond (Staples Mill) to and from Newport News, Va. Please note, Amtrak will operate a holiday schedule on Labor Day.

With the operation of these two services, Amtrak has restored all service to the East Coast following the damage from Hurricane Irene.

Amtrak thanks its passengers for their patience as we worked to restore service along the East Coast.
