I got so excited watching Amtrak Viewliner roomette tours on YouTube last night that I went ahead and booked a roomette from Birmingham to Philadelphia on Thursday Jan 16th. $288. Not a bad price, and worst case scenario, I will only be out $28 if the trip doesn't work out.
Preston from Nashville

Nashville needs Amtrak!

You can still change the reservation without losing out on the $28.

Folks I've seen some growing interest in January, and I promise to give a more definitive plan within the next week or so. And I'll do so in a newly created thread, since we're not in Spring nor Summer anymore. We can then discuss my current way of thinking, which could change again at the blink of an eye. What I can tell you is that although I earlier alluded to the possibility of dong something in November, this more than likely won't happen. It's too soon. And I may be going through a transition soon in the days and hours I work, so it's difficult to plan not knowing whether I would be available. It's also tough to commit to a weekend in January since no schedule has yet been made for me to request days off, if needed. I'll see you all in the Fall 2013 thread when I create it later this week.

As I have expressed to you, I am very interested in determining date and location of January fest. I would love to be able to reasonably priced tickets to the Northeast and back. Thanks.

I've seen people obsessing with this thread, and that's all well and good. But please understand I didn't keep my promise to update things for Fall as intended; as most of you well know I had other issues to deal with.

However it works out for you, I'm fine. Figure out your dates and the itinerary, and I'll make something work. If I get a few airline elite miles out of the deal, so much the better. :)

I appreciate all your work in these things. Planning travel is like plotting a route through a minefield. You never know when something is going to blow up.
