Once farmers' bane, grain trains now in abundance thanks to rail upgrades, oil slowdown

 

STERLING, N.D. — The grain elevator that towers over this small prairie town has been humming with workers loading crops onto rail cars destined for domestic and worldwide markets.

I hope this trend continues which will encourage states and railroads to add branch lines using Trackmobiles for switching and shunting.  Sloan

Reinvestments paying dividends for BNSF Railway

 

With the help of significant reinvestments over the past two years, BNSF Railway is coming off a successful harvest where car and train velocity improvements continue to increase shipping efficiency.

 

“We had a very strong movement in October of soybeans, which is typical of our network,” said John Miller, BNSF Agriculture Products Group vice president. “We saw farmers move a lot of beans and the weather was great. It was a wide open harvest and it ran very smoothly.”

 

Miller said BNSF is now moving into their post harvest phase of operations.
