Here is a tutorial on Salt Lake City's TRAX light rail, operated by Utah Transit Authority (UTA). The TRAX system is currently configured into three lines -- Blue, Red, and Green. All three run together at one point, however they all have distinct start and end points. The TRAX system is primarily designated by color, although on some maps those three routes are also respectively numbered 701, 703, and 704. The main north/south route is known as the Blue Line (701). We probably will use this one the most, as it is the only line that serves Central Station, where FrontRunner and Amtrak also stop. It runs down to Sandy and Draper. The Blue Line is joined by the Green Line (704) just before the Arena Station. That branch of the Green Line runs west to Salt Lake City International Airport, and has one stop at North Temple Bridge/Guadelope that is also a transfer point with FrontRunner. A T-intersection downtown between the Gallivan Plaza and Courthouse stations is where the Red Line joins the Blue and Green Lines to head further south. To the east the Red Line (703) runs to the University of Utah. There is a currently non-revenue connection southbound to eastbound and westbound to northbound. This was used by a route (702) that ran from Arena to University; there has been recent talk about bringing back service along this connection since such travel now requires passengers to transfer at the Courthhouse station. After the Central Pointe station, the Green Line goes off to the west, towards West Valley City. Also at Central Pointe, one can transfer between any TRAX line and the S-Line streetcar. The Blue and Red Lines continue south from here. At the Murray Central station, the parallel FrontRunner is nearby, allowing for transfers here. One stop beyond Murray is Fashion Place West. The Red and Blue Lines split here. The Red Line turns southwest, running to the community of Daybreak. The Blue Line continues on its own to Sandy, and then over its recently opened extension to Draper. We plan to cover all three lines in their entirety, potentially overlapping a bit where the lines do the same. The order may be switched up depending on where most end up staying in hotels and where we have dinner. The S-Line Streetcar runs on the border of Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake, east from Central Pointe. It uses a single car not unlike those found on the multiple unit TRAX light rail.
