Reading Blue Mountain and Northern news release, 11/19:

RBMN recognized for role in enacting Scrap Material Theft Prevention Act

On November 17, 2014 Reading & Northern Railroad Police Lt. Matthew A. Johnson attended the signing ceremony for the Scrap Material Theft Prevention Act. Governor Corbett signed the bill and the bill’s sponsor Senator David Argall, attended along with Lt. Johnson.

Lt. Johnson reached out to Senator’s Argall’s office in 2012 for assistance to combat the rise in theft of railroad related items. Lt. Johnson was concerned that the thefts could harm Reading & Northern’s goal of maintaining a safe environment for all railroad employees and the general public.

As a result of the work of Senator Argall’s office the law was amended so that scrap facilities were put on notice not to accept railroad material from the general public.

Reading & Northern is proud of the initiative and hard work of Lt. Johnson and the fact that his effort will lead to safer railroading in Pennsylvania.
