The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, which occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, the report said.

The train is equipped with Automatic Train Control, but it was not clear Tuesday whether the safety system should have been able to prevent the collision from happening, The Inquirer reported. For the full story, click here.

NTSB Investigating After 33 Injured When Train Crashes At 69th Street Terminal

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating after dozens of people were injured in a high-speed SEPTA train crash in Upper Darby early Tuesday morning.

Update

Note that the injury count seems to have gone down since this morning.  Maybe they caught scammers who claimed they were aboard the train but really weren't.

The Delaware County (PA) Daily Times, 9/20/17:

Probe: Train tracks were ‘slippery’ before crash at 69th Street

UPPER DARBY >> Less than a month following a collision by a Norristown High Speed SEPTA train at 69th Street Terminal, the National Transportation Safety Board release a preliminary report Tuesday that could indicate what led to the crash that injured the operator and 42 passengers.

While no determination of probable cause was made in this report, the NTSB stated that the operator of the 155 train heading east to its 12:10 a.m. destination at 69th Street Terminal on Aug. 22 reported slippery track conditions prior to the collision at the terminal.

The report states that the train had previously failed to stop during the final run of the night at the Gulph Mills Station, sliding past the platform and requiring permission to reverse back to the platform.
