On my site, because our hotel locations are widespread around town, I didn't break down the potential MARTA transit costs if one were to pay as they go, but they would be substantially high based on the two-seat rides to & from Amtrak for most, and the multiple boardings (both official trips and between arrival and the Fest activities we plan to do throughout the day on Monday). For those who have been to Atlanta before, they have gotten rid of having the buses enter the paid area of MARTA rail stations.

Bill Haithcoat, who lives in Atlanta, agrees with me that our best bet is a 2-Day Pass loaded on a Breeze Card. He has agreed to purchase these Breeze Cards for us in advance. Although we had a lull in our conversations, we're back to planning now that the event is coming up and we have a better handle on expected participation. The pass is $11, plus one dollar for the card itself. So the total would be $12.

The key to this, since our trip must start out by bus where the Breeze Card instrument is not for sale, is for Bill to meet our arrival on the Crescent Monday morning after having pre-purchased the cards for us. We recently discussed how we might reimburse him. He prefers exact payment so that he doesn't have to worry about making change. I also don't want him to have to carry a large sum of money around with him, particularly in the late evening hours after dinner. So I offered to collect the money during the first Crescent trip, then I'll write him a check for that amount. This will make Bill's contribution to helping us save money, and the Fest running smoother, much easier on everyone.

Kevin, I had previously contacted Bill a while back requesting that he pick up 3 cards for me, my mom, and Joe Hess. If Bill doesn't already have my check at this time, it should be there within the next day or two. Sorry to have created some confusion for you. :(
Alan,

Take care and take trains!

^_^ I appreciate the thought and effort put into all the plans, but since I am taking Greyhound in, and plan on taking the transit to meet the Crescent unless my bus in is running obscenely late (and the Crescent is running on time or close enough to it), I would prefer to take things into my own hands in this case and get my own Breeze Card.

Technicalities suck and legal name changes are a mess after it happens.

So as of the above, we have one yes, one no, and three "I-already-did"'s. Jishnu contacted me today, and I'll throw my name on the list too. So there's now 3 people who would like the advance purchase by Bill, at least the official one that I'm organizing. We have 3 or 4 more people who will be in Atlanta but have not yet indicated whether they would like this extreme favor done for them. It doesn't have to be this way --- you're welcome to pay a la carte and spend more than you have to without getting the pass before we get on that first bus Monday morning.

So once again.... If you would like a 2-day MARTA Pass pruchaed for you, let me lknow if you are not mentioned above, and I'll will add your name to the list. I would like to get a number to Bill by this time next week, say Thursday, July 14th. That gives him Friday and the weekend to do his business for us. Please let me know here what your intentions are.
