Well my beautiful bride Ashley dropped me off at the unsightly but mostly adequate BHM station today. The Crescent was about 10 minutes early to arrive and exactly nine minutes late departing. The staff has been pleasant. Our chef lost his own lunch somewhere south of Birmingham and had to be transported to the hospital via ambulance. Amtrak stepped up to the plate by serving us a cold in room dinner. They also flew a chef from NY to Atlanta for breakfast and lunch tomorrow. Right now it's 18:37 and I'm about an hour west of Atlanta. Life is good.

Wow what a drama filled trip. A small delay is not insurmountable once you get to the NEC -- you may make up some of it once the train goes discharge only.
