Bangor, ME Daily News, 10/24/17:
Rail group eyes Amtrak service to Rockland by summer 2018
A pilot program that would bring seasonal passenger rail service as far north as Rockland is being explored by the transportation authority tasked with handling the state’s contract with Amtrak’s Downeaster service.
Story here.
I would think that this is contingent on the Royal Junction Siding being completed and in service, and the resulting 5 round trips to Brunswick. I do wonder if such an extension can be done with the existing equipment fleet without reducing the number of Boston-Brunswick round trips.
