LIRR Track Work on Weekend of Oct. 25-26 Means Reduced Service or Schedule Changes on 7 Branches
Hempstead, Port Jeff, Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma, Montauk, Long Beach & Far Rock Affected
Track work scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26 will mean schedule changes and reduced train service on the Hempstead, Huntington/Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma, Montauk, Long Beach and Far Rockaway branches. Long Island Rail Road workers will be carrying out switch renewal work in the Queens Village area and off-loading continuous welded rail between Hicksville and Syosset for future installation.
“The track work scheduled for the weekend of October 25-26 is a critical part of an ongoing effort to ensure our infrastructure remains in a state of good repair,” said LIRR President Patrick A. Nowakowski. “The reliability of the LIRR depends on it.”
Special timetables with all of the time changes for each of the affected branches for the weekend of October 25-26 are available at stations and terminals and can also be found on the LIRR website at www.mta.info/lirr. The significant service changes scheduled for that weekend include:
Hempstead Branch Westbound Customers at Queens Village and Hollis will board buses to Jamaica from midnight to 12 noon on Saturday, October 25. Customers from Hempstead going to stations Queens Village and Hollis will change for buses at Bellerose. Customers should plan for up to 16 minutes of added travel time. Eastbound From noon to 8 PM Saturday, October 25, nine eastbound trains will run operate on adjusted schedules.
Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch Westbound and Eastbound On Saturday, October 25, service between Penn Station and Huntington will be reduced from half-hourly to hourly with trains operating on adjusted schedules. On Sunday, October 26, service between Hicksville and Huntington will be reduced from half-hourly to hourly with trains on an adjusted schedule.
Westbound to Westbury & Merillon Ave. On Sunday, customers traveling to Westbury and Merillon Ave. from Port Jefferson Branch stations east of Hicksville will change at Hicksville for the next through train. Expect 30 minutes of added travel time. Eastbound from New Hyde Park & Carle Place On Sunday, customers boarding at New Hyde Park or Carle Place to Port Jefferson Branch stations east of Hicksville will transfer at Hicksville for next through train. Expect up to 30 minutes of added travel time.
Oyster Bay Branch
Westbound
On Saturday, all westbound trains will leave stations 6 minutes later than normal time. Connections to western terminals have been adjusted as well. On Sunday, only the 6:20 AM westbound train from Oyster Bay to Jamaica will leave stations 6 minutes later.
Ronkonkoma/Greenport Branch
Westbound and Eastbound
Various eastbound and westbound trains are canceled and/or operating on adjusted schedules on Saturday.
Montauk Branch
Westbound
On Saturday, October 25, trains leaving Montauk at 3:30 PM, 5:35 PM and 7:33 PM will arrive at Jamaica up to 16 minutes later than normal time.
Eastbound
On Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26, the Montauk-bound train that departs Jamaica at 1:10 AM will not make its usual stop at Hicksville, but instead will travel to Montauk via the Babylon Branch. Montauk-bound customers who usually board at Hicksville will instead board a van that will take them to Babylon and make all stops to Montauk.
Long Beach Branch
Westbound
On Saturday October 25 the westbound 1:08 train from Long Beach to Jamaica will have a different Penn Station connecting train arriving at Penn Station at 2:12 AM.
Far Rockaway Branch
Westbound
Customers taking the 12:42AM train from Far Rockaway on Saturday and Sunday will arrive at western terminals three minutes later than usual. The connecting train at Jamaica will leave three minutes later too
Eastbound
Customers bound for Far Rockaway Saturday and Sunday will depart on train leaving Penn at 4:05 AM, stopping at Woodside at 4:17 AM, to connect to the train leaving Jamaica at 4:37 AM for Far Rockaway.
