A good question has come up regarding the Poughkeepsie turn. Should we book coach class or business class on Amtrak Train #292?
Well it's up to you. From previous experience I am sure that whatever size group we have, it will get fragmented during this time as some opt for CC and others go to BC. Right now, the base fare for POU-NYP in coach class is $22. For business class, an additional $11 is charged, for a total of $33. Subtract out your 10% AAA or NARP discount and we're under $20 coach and under $30 business. If you wait until later and reservations fill up, those amounts may be higher.
So when you e-mail me to tell me you're participating, also please indicate whether you will be going on #292 in CC or BC.
Now to those would would be riding "Through" New York: The POU-NYP fare may be substantially less if paired with a trip on the NEC towards Boston or Washington. That is, the total fare would be less than the total if they were paid separately.
Thanks....

We discussed the BC vs CC issue during the most recent Sunday chat session. The result is that we have agreed that given the time and distance involved, plus the ratio of possibly available seats in Business Class to the number of expected participants, we will just travel in coach class.
Again given the circumstances of that weekend, I would advise reserving this as soon as possible to avoid being locked out or ending up in a higher fare bucket.
