Aug 28, 2017

Due to the historic rainfall and flooding resulting from Hurricane Harvey in the Gulf region, Kansas City Southern (KCS) has declared Force Majeure and has issued an embargo on all shipments destined to Laredo and Mexico. As a result, effective 11:00pm EDT today, Monday August 28th, Norfolk Southern will stop accepting shipments at all origin facilities destined to Laredo and Mexico.

All shipments ingated prior to the aforementioned gate closures will be loaded onto railcars, staged, and advanced to destination once the routes to Laredo and Mexico are deemed safe for movement. We will not be able to unload and return shipments once they have been loaded.

Norfolk Southern Foundation supports Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts

Norfolk, Va. - Sep 01, 2017

The Norfolk Southern Foundation is donating $100,000 and will match Norfolk Southern employee gifts to assist in Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.

The Foundation, Norfolk Southern’s charitable giving arm, will give $50,000 to the American Red Cross and $50,000 to the Houston Food Bank. The Foundation will match employee donations to the American Red Cross and Feeding America food banks, including the Houston Food Bank, for relief efforts.

“Our hearts go out to the thousands of families and individuals whose lives have been upended by the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey,” said Norfolk Southern CEO James A. Squires. “We believe it’s important for corporate America to step up and support the people of Houston and surrounding areas in this time of need. The Red Cross and Feeding America food banks have proven track records for providing effective help when disaster strikes. We consider ourselves fortunate to be able to assist their efforts.”
