Progressive Railroading, 8/12/14:

The Region of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, will host a groundbreaking ceremony Aug. 21 for Stage 1 of the ION rapid-transit system at the future site of the operations, maintenance and storage facility on Dutton Drive.

ION light rail car testing begins in Waterloo

The first on-track testing of the ION light rail has started Tuesday morning in Waterloo Region and will go until 2:30 p.m.

The transit agency tweeted photos showing the first of the Bombardier-built cars being rolled out and tested on tracks in Waterloo.

Ion begins testing light rail vehicles over entire route

 

 

 

People in Kitchener and Waterloo may get their first glimpse of Ion light rail vehicles on tracks out in the community as the system begins testing along the entire 19-kilometre route.

 

LRT workers were testing a vehicle Thursday afternoon between the light rail storage facility on Dutton Drive and Conestoga Mall in Waterloo, said TJ Flynn, a spokesperson for the Region of Waterloo.
