Nogales (AZ) International, 2/13/18:
Council wants NPD to ticket stopped trains
The Nogales City Council is turning to the city’s police force in hopes of reducing the amount of time vehicles and pedestrians are held up at local intersections by stopped trains.
During a presentation by Lt. Carlos Jimenez of the Nogales Police Department at a study session last Wednesday, Mayor John Doyle and Councilman Marcelino Varona, Jr. expressed frustration that Union Pacific trains are frequently stopped in Nogales city limits, blocking traffic for extended periods of time. They called it a violation of city ordinances which limit the time trains can be stopped in the city to five minutes, and said they want NPD to better enforce the rules by issuing citations.
