The Delaware Valley Chapter of the NRHS is sponsoring a trip to the Baltimore Streetcar Museum on Saturday October 15, 2005. The trip will depart from Trenton on train #153 at 9:02am arriving in Baltimore at 10:43am. At Baltimore we will enjoy access to displays, an audio visual presentation of Baltimore’s streetcar history, a guided carhouse tour and unlimited ride on original Baltimore streetcars. There will also be an opportunity for some attendees to operate the equipment (subject to certain restrictions and cannot be guaranteed for all attendees). The return trip will depart from Baltimore on train #158 at 7:02pm arriving in Trenton at 8:47pm. The fare for the day is $60.

All meals and additional transportation fare, if any, (the Amtrak ticket is included) is by individual settlement.

Only a limited number of seats are still available. Deadline of Saturday September 24 at noon.

Railway Preservation News reports that the Baltimore Streetcar Museum has recently acquired seven PCCs from Septa, one of which is a line car that the museum plans to retain in that guise.

The museum's line terminates at a loop in front of the old Maryland and Pennsylvania roundhouse. Baltimore city public works department uses the roundhouse as a garage and materials storage facility. Apparently, BSM would like to acquire the roundhouse and discussions with the city on that matter are underway.

I guess SEPTA didn't refurbish their entire PCC fleet for use on the Girard line.

BSM bought the PCC cars from SEPTA for $200 each. The transportaion costs for each one from PHL to BAL was 10 times the purchase price. If I had a few more acres of land I would be tempted to buy some for my yard.

Bill,

While they are digging up US 9 in Freehold, why not have them put a track in the median for you so you can run a PCC car carrying residents and shoppers around town? smile.gif
