From Amtrak, 1/19/06:

Service Alert: Crescent - Service Disruption South of Atlanta, Through January 22

Updated January 19, 2006 3:00 pm EST

Due to an incident involving two freight trains on the Norfolk Southern Railway south of Anniston, Ala., Amtrak Crescent service will be disrupted through Sunday, January 22. The railroad was closed in the area of the incident and resulting freight train congestion is expected to be considerable after the route is restored.

As a result, the following operations plan is in effect:

The southbound Crescent (Train 19) departing New York on January 20 and 21 will terminate in Atlanta instead of New Orleans, with no alternate transportation between Atlanta and New Orleans.

The northbound Crescent (Train 20), scheduled to depart New Orleans on January 20, 21 and 22, will instead originate in Atlanta, with no alternate transportation between New Orleans and Atlanta.

The Crescent ordinarily operates daily between New York and New Orleans, via Washington, Atlanta, Birmingham and Meridian.
