Norfolk Southern Announces Odd Lots Tender Offer

Norfolk, VA – Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) announced a voluntary offer to purchase shares of its common stock from stockholders who own fewer than 100 shares. The program expires May 30, 2006, unless extended or terminated earlier by Norfolk Southern.

Stockholders who accept the offer and tender their shares will be paid a per share price equal to the average of the high and low trading prices for Norfolk Southern common stock on the New York Stock Exchange on the date on which the transaction is processed. Stockholders who participate in the offer will not have to pay brokerage commissions, fees or other transaction costs.

Clever. Undoubtably some bean-counter cleverly concluded these type of shares were difficult to administrate, and thus went forward with this offer.
