Sunday night Trains Chat Options

Just a reminder that we meet every Sunday evening in real time to talk about trains. As our own HaRRy Sutton puts it, we can discuss anything on flanged wheels!

Please join us each and every Sunday for our online chat. You can easily access it from this board by clicking on the "Live Chat" button near the top of your screen.

Our chat begins at 9:30 PM Eastern time. That is 8:30 PM Central, 7:30 PM Mountain, and 6:30 PM Pacific. Please adjust accordingly if you are in a time zone outside the contiguous 48 states of the USA.

This is just a reminder for our newer members that our weekly chat sessions take place on Sunday nights, starting at the times listed above. The chat channels are always open for your use, but I can imagine it would be quite lonely if you haven't arranged with another member to be there too.

We meet every single Sunday, regardless of what may be on television at the time, and regardless of whether the next day is a work day or a holiday. Please join us as we talk trains!

Our official Trains Chats continue every Sunday night, at 9:30 AM Eastern time. Our regulars meet every week and talk not only about trains, but lately it's been anything under the sun. Why, this past Sunday we went from Trains to airports to hotels to shopping malls!

The chat channels are always open, so you can use them anytime if you have pre-arranged with somebody else to chat.

I don't follow sports, but I have it on authority that there is some important match or game taking place this weekend, scheduled to take place before and during our Chat session.

I plan to ignore the unfortunate conflict, keep my televison off, and chat about TRAINS.

We have much to talk about --- the Amtrak trains that got stuck in the Sierras (and now the fallout with disgruntled passengers), and of course our plans for the fest in Florida this summer.

Be sure to remember our Sunday Chat tonight and every Sunday night at 9:30 PM Eastern, 8:30 PM Central, 7:30 PM Mountain, 6:30 PM Pacific, and whatever time of day Hawaii decides it is. We usually talk for about 90 minutes, although it can go longer sometimes.

Hot topic tonight promises to be our just completed annual summer RailFest. Join us as we discuss the positives and negatives of our Amtrak trips across the country, as well as the commuter, transit, and heritage streetcar systems we rode together within California (as well as New Orleans & Chicago!).

For those who tried Sunday Chat for the first time last weekend, you indeed found nobody there. Most were either in travel or headed for dinner when the chat should have been in session. (Personally, my hotel's computers did not have the proper software.) Rest assured most of us are back and ready to chat!

Apologies to those who had trouble accessing our Chat session this past Sunday night 9/6/09. We are not sure what the root of the problem was, but persevereance got several of us in within the next half hour after 9:30 PM EDT. Midway through the chat, participants reported getting on with no problems.

We invite you to try again this coming Sunday evening 9:30 PM EDT, with adjustments to that time if you live in other time zones.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING OUR SUNDAY TRAINS CHAT

AddonInteractive will be updating our Chat software in the early hours of Wednesday, October 28th. The updated version will include many new features. Thus the Chat may look a little different to you by next weekend's session on Sunday. Some of the features are only for the Admins, so I won't list them all here. But there are a couple of important steps you should follow if you intend to use the Chat room going forward:

• Make sure you have Java version 5 or higher. The new software will not support any lower versions of Java. You can upgrade your machine to the current version by going to http://www.java.com/ .
• It is advised that you launch the Chat sometime between Wednesday 10/28 and Sunday 11/1 (well before our scheduled session at 9:30 PM EST) to make sure you can still access the Chat and get familiar with any new features.

On another note, remember that in 48 states of the USA we turn the clocks back to Standard Time the early morning of Sunday, 11/1, so our next Chat will be at 9:30 PM Eastern Standard Time, 8:30 Central, 7:30 Mountain, and 6:30 PM Pacific. If you are in Arizona or Hawaii where DST is not observed, adjust the time you usually join us accordingly.
