SEPTA Set to Open New 1,000-Space Parking Garage at Frankford Transportation Center

Thursday August 31, 2:29 pm ET

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- SEPTA will open a new 1,000-space indoor parking garage at the Frankford Transportation Center (FTC) on Tuesday, September 5, marking a new milestone in the construction and development of the transportation complex. The four-level parking garage, located on Bustleton Avenue north of Bridge Street, will offer riders easy access to the 16 bus routes that operate to and from the transportation center as well as the Market-Frankford subway-elevated line. SEPTA customers will now be able to conveniently park their vehicles safely inside the brightly lit building and out of the weather 24-hours-a-day, every day of the year. Garage personnel will be on-duty throughout the day and the facility is wheelchair accessible and completely automated with machines providing and validating parking tickets. It also features two inbound and two outbound traffic lanes for the convenience of drivers entering and exiting the garage.

There are three easy and convenient ways to pay to park in the new garage with prices ranging from $2.30 per day to $3.25 per day:

-- The cost for one-day parking is $3.25. The occasional rider will simply take a ticket from the entrance gate and keep it throughout the day. Before leaving the garage for the day, validate (pay) the ticket at the designated Pay Station (machine) on Level One. Then use the validated ticket to exit.

-- Frequent riders can pay only $3.00 per day by using an Easy Park Card. Easy Park Cards can be purchased for $15.00 or $30.00 (exact cash or credit cards) at the dispensing machine at the Pay Station on Level One. The Easy Park Card must be used every time you enter and exit the garage and the card balance will be displayed every time used.

-- SEPTA will also offer a Monthly Parking Card for $49.95 that provides for unlimited access to the garage. With the Monthly Parking Card riders that use the garage five days a week (or an average of 20 days per month) will pay only about $2.30 per day. It is easy and convenient to use the card as it must simply be held or waved within six inches of the black oblong sensors at the entrance and exit gates.

To purchase the Monthly Parking Card riders must fill out a FTC parking services application (included in the FTC "Guide to Parking" brochure available now at the information and sales desks at FTC). The Monthly Parking Card must be charged to a Visa or MasterCard credit card account on the 25th of the month for the next month (purchased September 25th for the month of October). It also requires a one-time $5.00 deposit that is refunded when the card is returned.

In addition, with the opening of the new garage SEPTA will discontinue parking at the surface parking lots currently serving the Frankford Transportation Center on Sunday, September 10. They include the parking lots located at Pratt & Darrah streets (the Shop & Bag), Wachovia Bank, Granite and Darrah streets, Pratt & Griscom streets, and the Erie-Torresdale Station (Jerusalem Furniture).
