I posted this article in the Freight forum, but there is a definite passenger angle since Pan Am Railways hosts the Downeaster as well:
QUOTE Patricia Quinn, a spokeswoman for Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, which operates Amtrak's Downeaster service, said freight traffic seems to have increased, but she didn't know by how much. The Downeaster runs between Portland, Maine, and Boston on tracks also used by freight trains. The story is here. One little error.... The above spokesperson states that they run 10 trains a day. Check again, you run only eight a day. The last weekday trip on the schedule is a motorcoach, which has absolutely no reliance on the freight railroad. -------------------- Kevin Korell OTOL Board Leader Howell, NJ |
