The Fest Miles begin to arrive...

First, there is the issue of the mileages of the Silver Star verses the Silver Meteor. That requires some math to be employed to get the correct mileages for the Silver Star. Here's how it works:

For all stops between New York south to but not including Savannah, the timetable miles are correct for both trains.

The route of the Silver Star via Raleigh and Columbia is 42 miles longer to Savannah than the Silver Meteor's route via Florence and Charleston. So, to get the correct mileage for the Star, you must add 42 miles to the timetable miles for stations from Savannah to Lakeland (both stops).

Then, the out and back to Tampa taken by the Silver Star adds another 91 miles as compared to the Meteor's direct route from Kissimmee to Winter Haven. Add those 91 miles to the 42 extra miles via Columbia, and you then add 133 miles to the timetable mileages to get the Silver Star's mileages for all stops from Winter Haven to Miami. Bottom line: NYP-MIA is 1389 miles via the Silver Meteor and 1522 miles via the Silver Star.
