RAYNHAM - Selectmen last night "declared victory" in their fight against a Fall River/New Bedford commuter rail line and voted to disband a legal fund set up to battle the project.

The announcement followed the recent release of an MBTA capital investment report which excluded the $720 million rail project from its five-year capital plan.

Aparently they forgot that it takes time to rebuild a rail line that has been out of service for decades, but you can't expect politicians to think when they have their political futures tied into the project. Opening date for the project was supposed to be around 2008 or 2009, outside the 5 years the CIP deals with biggrin.gif
