I like it, but I don't see any trip generators on this route unless Tavares has become a huge bedroom community for Orlando. Sloan |

Agreed, this line would generate anywhere close to the ridership SunRail would have had. It almost seems as if officials in the Orlando area are willing to accept this just so that Orlando can have bragging rights that they now have a commuter line.
On its own it may be a poor idea. Coupled with a revised SunRail, a spur to Mt. Dora and Tavares would act as a feeder and open up more origin/destination pairs in Central Florida. -------------------- Kevin Korell OTOL Board Leader Howell, NJ |

There's already "rail service" over this line. See: http://www.railforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimateb...ic/11/5902.html

The line has an excellent route into Orlando. Its endpoint would give passengers easy access to downtown office complex; and, as mentioned, tourist and sport venues. There are some grade crossing issues that need attention, otherwise the train would lose its congestion-relief speed advantage. Sloan |

I am not sure but I believe that if Orange Blossom Express were to directly serve downtown Orlando and connect with Amtrak and the future SunRail, it would need an extension built through parts of downtown. I think the track ends near Amway Arena, on the west side of I-4, whereas most of the city along with the CSX mainline in use for passenger service is east of it.
Plus you have the situation where Orlando's Amtrak station is about a mile south of downtown. I'm not sure where SunRail is going to end up. But obviously an intermodal transportation center right in the middle of the city serving all three railroads as well as the LYNX bus focal point (already there) would be a plus for all. -------------------- Kevin Korell OTOL Board Leader Howell, NJ |
