Sunday 7/18 after check-in/lunch
In Portland, the plan for Sunday 7/18 (assuming the Empire Builder arrives on time) is to first check-in or store luggage at our hotels. Lunch is on your own as well since we're splitting up to many locations. We would then get together again and take the Portland Streetcar first northbound towards Northwest Portland (Legacy Hospital), and then remain onboard for the southbound run. We will begin our travel at the Central Library station. The Portland Streetcar runs downtown on the one-way couplet of 10th & 11th Avenues. 10th Avenue is northbound, and 11th Avenue is southbound. The Central Library station on SW 10th Avenue is just south of its intersection with SW Yamhill Street.
If you cannot walk there from your hotel, the MAX light rail Red & Blue lines run east-west on the couplet of SW Morrison Street (westbound) and SW Yamhill Street (eastbound). So from most downtown hotels or the airport area, you can take MAX westbound along SW Morrison Street to the Galleria/SW 10th station, and walk one block south on SW 10th to the Central Library station. If your hotel is west of this location, take MAX east along SW Yamhill to Library/SW 9th Avenue and walk 1 block west along Yamhill.
If we are severely delayed, we may decide to just head south. (Or if you miss our northbound run you can catch us going south past the location.) There are southbound Portland Streetcar stations along SW 11th & Adler (just north of SW Morrison), or SW 11th & Taylor (just south of SW Yamhill).
Monday morning 7/19
Our first MAX trip will be southbound on the Portland Mall, specifically a Yellow Line train headed for PSU. MAX on the Mall runs on the couplet of SW 5th Avenue (southbound) and SW 6th Avenue (northbound) .... basically left handed. We should therefore meet on SW 5th Avenue between SW Morrison & SW Yamhill, at the Pioneer Square station. You can access this location by taking any MAX line; on the Red & Blue Lines you would use one of the "Mall" stations. If you miss us, you can catch us northbound on SW 6th Avenue at the Pioneer Courthouse station as we head towards Expo Center on the Yellow Line.
Tuesday 7/20
As long as we fulfill the itinerary as stated on Sunday & Monday, there is no reason to meet early Tuesday morning. Folks can make their way to Union Station, arriving enough in advance of our 12:15 PM departure. Should there be a need or desire to makeup something we missed, this may be accomplished on Tuesday morning before we proceed to Union Station. Based on what we do it can be discussed on Monday evening.
