QUOTE New Orleans Service Disrupted by Approaching Storm Sunset Limited, Crescent and City of New Orleans Affected Amtrak has been notified of plans to close the railroad routes used by its trains to and from New Orleans, due to the predicted landfall of Tropical Storm Bonnie. In consultation with the owners of the routes and other officials, Amtrak must truncate the three routes at destinations where passengers can be accomodated and the trains can be serviced, short of their New Orleans terminus. No alternate transportation is available and Amtrak is providing refunds to passengers ticketed on these trains, starting July 23 with the departures from Los Angeles, New York City and Chicago. Train 2, Sunset Limited, Eastbound This train will temporarily operate only between Los Angeles and San Antonio, effective with the orginiation on July 23. No rail service east to New Orleans, but Amtrak Thruway Motorcoaches will continue to operate through Houston, to and from Longview, Texas. Train 19, Crescent, Southbound This train will temporarily operate only between New York City and Meridian, Miss., effective with the origination on July 23. No rail service south to New Orleans. Train 59, City of New Orleans, Southbound This train will temporarily operate only between Chicago and Jackson, Miss., effective with the origination on July 23. No rail service south to New Orleans.
