Most interesting is that "red eye" nonstop trip leaving SEA a minute before midnight and getting to PDX 4:15 AM.

As was mentioned by somebody on the blog, that train is scheduled to meet the night train from Vancouver, BC. Seattle is the center of the Cascades universe and when appropriate for scheduling out of Seattle, a train need not go direct Vancouver-Portland. No harm in a [quick] layover in Seattle. If the train from Vancouver is late, it wrecks up everyone else's plans. The overwhelming majority of traffic between Seattle and Portland is from Seattle south.
