An Amtrak train that left Chicago on Thursday, bound for Sacramento, has collided with a truck on a rural northern highway outside of Reno, Nevada.

A truck driver and at least one passenger on the train are confirmed dead by the Nevada Highway Patrol, following a collision between a tractor trailer and a Sacramento-bound Amtrak train.

So far 104 passengers have been transported from the scene of a train and tractor-trailer crash in north Churchill County, authorities said.

NTSB LAUNCHING TEAM TO INVESTIGATE AMTRAK ACCIDENT IN NEVADA

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a Go-Team to investigate the collision between an Amtrak passenger train and a vehicle at a grade crossing on a rural highway in Nevada.

The Amtrak train was traveling from Chicago to Emeryville, Calif., when it was stuck by a truck at about 11:25 a.m. PT today. Numerous fatalities and multiple injuries have been reported.

Robert Accetta will serve as Investigator-in-Charge for the team. Member Earl Weener is accompanying the team and will serve as principal spokesman during the on-scene phase of the investigation.

NTSB sends team to fatal Amtrak train crash

June 24, 2011 (RENO, Nev.) (WLS) -- At least two people were killed and about 20 others were injured when an Amtrak train from Chicago was struck by a semitrailer truck in Nevada Friday.

Police say the truck driver and an Amtrak employee were killed in the crash, which happened about 1:30 p.m. Chicago time on Friday. A Nevada State Trooper told ABC7 Friday night that a third person -- a train passenger -- died in the crash as well. The train was headed from Chicago to the San Francisco Bay Area when it crashed near Trinity, Nev., which is about 70 miles east of Reno.

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a team to investigate.

Feds look into truck driver killed in Amtrak crash

Authorities plan to look into the driving and medical records of the semitrailer driver who died when his truck slammed into an Amtrak train, killing a train crew member and injuring dozens of passengers.
