An Amtrak train that left Chicago on Thursday, bound for Sacramento, has collided with a truck on a rural northern highway outside of Reno, Nevada.

Federal judge orders trucking firm to provide truck to Amtrak for inspection

A federal judge on Monday ordered the trucking company involved in a deadly crash with an Amtrak train in June to let the railroad companies inspect a truck that is the same make, model and year as the one that crashed into the train, killing six.

Lawyers and experts for Amtrak, Union Pacific Railroad and John Davis Trucking will be in Reno this week to inspect truck debris and the rail crossing on U.S. 95 in preparation for lawsuits they’ve filed against each other in U.S. District Court in Reno over the June 24 crash about 70 miles east of Reno.

During the hearing, U.S. Magistrate Valerie Cooke also ordered Amtrak and UP to give the trucking company copies of onboard train video footage of the crash and an event recorder -- commonly referred to as the “black box” -- taken from the damaged train.
