New Jersey Association of Railroad Passengers (NJ-ARP), newsletter for August 2011:

NJ-ARP put out a press release in mid-August protesting the proposed 57% PATH fare increase. They called on NJ Governor Christie and the commissioners of the Port Authority of NY & NJ to stop considering such a hike. They asked why the transit fare increase is higher than that being imposed on autos through higher tolls. At very least, they urged the PA to extend for two weeks the time period for customer input. They also questioned the amount of notice before fare increase hearings, and the fact that the location was not convenient to PATH customers.

A new timetable for west-of-Hudson Metro North trains came out on August 14th. (Of course that was before the recent hurricane that totally knocked out Port Jervis service for a few months.) Most of the changes were to provide better transfer times at Secaucus Junction.

While increasing speeds in New Jersey on the Northeast Corridor from 135 to 160 mph will result in a time savings of under two minutes, the capability to move all Acela, Regional, and NJT trains through the corridor will improve overall.
