QUOTE

On Monday, U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and State Transportation Board of Georgia officials joined private-sector representatives to commemorate the signing of an agreement for the initial development of a multi-modal passenger terminal (MMPT) and commercial center in downtown Atlanta.

Here is the full story. And hopefully there's a lot more coming, because they still have to figure out how to get the Crescent and any potential high speed rail in there without a backup move, and without conflicting with existing freight trains through the city. And to my understanding this is the long term plan, which has nothing to do with the need to get out of the current station and move to a more viable location that can handle ridership and whose parking lot hasn't been condemned.
