Well, 4 months makes a big difference. As disastrous was our December trip South, our Trip North was just fantastic.
We had Crew #5 and our attendant was Kenny. Kenny has been there for 26 years and was as perfect as could be expected. There were 283 vehicles, 486 people, and 46 rail cars ( 30 autos and 16 passengers) on this trip. We left Sanford at 3:57 PM and pulled into Lorton at 8:50 AM. Our vehicle was one of the last off the train at 10:25 AM. The food at dinner was superb!! I challenge you to have a better piece of beef than the dinner we were served. The entire dining room crew was great. Everything on this trip was simply top shelf. An interesting note, we arrived in Sanford at 10:45 AM and they had already started loading the train. They told us that because of the rally for Trayvon Martin they didn't want a long line of cars out onto 1st street and have a potential problem. There were 2 helicopters flying overhead when we checked in, and for some time afterwards as well. Just a really great trip!! Hope that it's like this in December when we head back south!! HJ |

Howard,
Thanks for your report! Sounds like you had a wonderful trip, even if your car was among the last ones to come off the train. I haven't yet had the luck of seeing my car among the first ones. And I was wondering if Sanford being ground zero for one of the biggest news stories right now would have an effect on Auto Train. Now we know. Don't forget to report your Amtrak miles for our tally here. -------------------- Kevin Korell OTOL Board Leader Howell, NJ |
