NJ Transit becomes the first commuter railroad in the nation to offer online ticket purchasing with Monday’s announcement of a pilot program that allows people to buy tickets for its train to the Meadowlands and print them from a home computer.

Here is the story.

It appears that they are only selling online tickets between New York Penn Station and the Meadowlands. Currently one cannot change the origin point. One must select their ticket(s) by event, so it's unlike machine or agent - sold tickets where the tickets can be used anytime within their validity period.
