NJT/Conrail Allows Earlier Rise and Shine on River Line Options

Capital Connection service expands to offer loop service to State House and downtown

NEWARK, NJ – Customers traveling from Florence and Roebling stations on the River LINE will be able to make earlier connections to Northeast Corridor trains thanks to an agreement reached between NJ TRANSIT and the Consolidated Rail Corp., NJ TRANSIT Executive Director George D. Warrington announced today.

Starting Tuesday, September 7th, the first River LINE train to serve Florence will depart at 6:08 a.m., stopping in Roebling at 6:11 a.m.—15 minutes earlier than the current schedule—and arrive in Trenton at 6:28 a.m. where connections to Northeast Corridor trains and Capital Connection shuttle bus service are available.

“I’d like to thank Conrail for enabling NJ TRANSIT to provide earlier service for our customers,” Mr. Warrington said. “The new schedule allows our customers in Florence and Roebling to make earlier connections to NJ TRANSIT, SEPTA and Amtrak services in Trenton.”

With their earlier arrival, Florence and Roebling customers can connect to NJ TRANSIT train 3290, which departs Trenton at 6:43 a.m. and arrives at New York Penn Station at 7:43 a.m. The park-and-ride lot at Florence station features 625 free parking spaces and is easily accessed from the New Jersey Turnpike. Roebling Station features more than 200 free parking spaces.

Expanded Capital Connection service between downtown and State House

Also on Tuesday, NJ TRANSIT will enhance its Capital Connection service to include new peak period shuttles between the River LINE station, downtown Trenton and the State House. Added to the schedule are four morning peak trips, timed to depart Trenton Station four minutes after the arrival of River LINE trains, and six afternoon return trips, scheduled to arrive four minutes prior to the departure of River LINE trains.

In June, the River LINE began 15-minute peak period departures. At that time, service increased from 76 to 105 weekday roundtrips, and the evening rush hour schedule was extended to 8 p.m. to make using the light rail convenient for customers connecting at Trenton from Northeast Corridor trains.
