It's better to be stuck down than, er, stuck up
 ... at least for the travelling public and railfan interests. However, I am sure that boat fans have a different opinion on that. That's a navigable river that is vital to national defense. Submarines are based north of the bridge as is the Coast Guard Academy's tall ship "Eagle." The Coast Guard rules state that navigation takes presedence over land traffic and they could order the bridge opened PERMANENTLY! |
