L.A. gave us the Orange Line busway a few years ago. Boston gave us the Silver Line, which has grown to four bus routes with that collective name. Cleveland tried to give us a Silver Line busway too, but with hospitals along the route financing it, it became the Health Line.

Now Los Angeles will have its version of the Silver Line, not really a new route but a combination of express routes and two busways east and south of the city into a dedicated and frequent route along existing freeways.

From the LAist, 12/3/09:

Beginning December 13th, the Silver Line will whisk passengers between El Monte and South LA via downtown Los Angeles in under an hour.

Story here. I bring this to you because as usual we can collectively wonder why we're not talking about a light rail line opening in its place.
