Some of the quotes in this article were horrifying for me to read. It seems that nothing David Gunn says will get our representatives to acknowledge that a safe national passenger rail system cannot exist without public subsidy and that their beloved Amtrak Reform Council was built on a foundation of complete and utter transportation ignorance. The French and Japanese pour vaults and vaults of money into their passenger rail systems each year--without bickering about it beforehand-- and the trains zip across those countries at close to 200 MPH and almost always arrive on time. Wow! What a coincidence!
