The listing I have detailing the eateries in New Orleans is far from complete. Our experience there 2 years ago shows that many like to deviate and go for the local delicacies. And that's fine. We have one full day (Wednesday) together to ride the 4 streetcar lines. Lunch will be at the Riverfront Marketplace, since it's most likely the largest venue with a large selection of things to eat at its food court. Wednesday dinner has not been decided yet.

On Thursday, we may just do a sightsee-on-your-own day, where you can enjoy seeing the sites perhaps off the streetcar lines. Keeping in mind that we do have a scheduled Amtrak departure in the mid-afternoon, you might be able to get a cajun lunch someplace (while I'm eating Whoppers or Chicken McNuggets!).

Bottom line is that this is a large, major city with plenty of places to eat and be entertained along the streets. You may find your favorite fast food place just walking along Canal Street or one of the side streets in the CBD or French Quarter.

Do some online investigations of your own before the trip, so you are prepared to be able to find a place to your liking.

AFAIR the four areas mentioned are all within walking distance of each other too. Good food BTW is never a problem in New Orleans.

Still nothing decided here regarding dinner, much less researched. Any of the other dozen or so folks who will be there with the group are welcome to investigate things and lay out some suggestions as was done with Atlanta and Memphis.

I'm starting to look at places in New Orleans, preferrably not too far off the beaten track (or in our case, the streetcar track! ). I'm not looking to break the bank, as we could do that in Memphis and might do the same in Atlanta. So I have initially concentrated on places with lighter fare.

Nosh - located in the French Quarter 1-1/2 blocks off Canal. This appears to have mostly different types of Sliders. Not specifically White Castle as comes to mind, but the same size. They also have a few other things as daily specials. Stricken from record due to hours of operation.

Oceana Grill - located in the French Quarter. Dinner Menu has mostly Cajun, Creole, and Po-Boys. The latter is the New Orleans term for what we call in other places a sub, hoagie, hero, etc. You can get a cheeseburger for a mere $11.50, so maybe this isn't a good selection. But it's out there anyhow.

Clover Grill - An old-time diner place whose menu has sandwiches and breakfast available all day and night. Also located in the French Quarter.

I've looked at possible steakhouses, and most appear to be very expensive (we're talking in the $30-$50 range for a steak). Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Don Shula's, and other national chains are located in New Orleans, along with a number of local places.

One other thing that I suggest as an interesting alternative is the Buffet at Harrahs Casino. If I interpret this correctly, it appears that the Wednesday evening admission price is $19.99 and you get all you can eat or drink including dessert, and Prime Rib is included as well. A buffet would be a good departure from fast food as well as the sitdown restaurants already under consideration in the other cities.

I don't see any other buffet-type places we could easily get to, other than one aboard The Steamboat Natchez. But I don't think we have the time nor money for a Mississippi riverboat cruise!

Looking at the website, it appears that Nosh closes at 5pm (more or less) on weekdays. That would seem to eliminate that one from consideration.

From my taste, Oceana looks pretty good.
