Metro Board split on trimming rail service
WASHINGTON -- Metro Board members are on a collision course over potentially scaling back rail service on weekend nights.
Specifically, board members are asking if stopping service at midnight on Friday and Saturday nights, instead of 3 a.m., would allow the transit agency to save money and increase maintenance time.
"At some point, we have some really tough choices to make," says Metro Board member Tom Downs, who represents D.C. on the board. "In Chicago, they chose to close an entire line for two years. We are not there, but those are the kinds of choices we are going to be facing."
