Two committees have begun planning next year’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of Grand Central Terminal’s opening in New York City, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and MTA Metro-North Railroad officials announced last week.

MTA, Metro-North ready for Grand Central's centennial celebration

The centennial celebration of New York City's Grand Central Terminal will kick off Feb. 1.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and MTA Metro-North Railroad will open the terminal to the public for a full day of celebration activities, including a morning rededication ceremony and musical performances "that will keep visitors entertained into the evening," said Metro-North officials said in a prepared statement.

Grand Central’s “Grand Centennial Parade of Trains”

An impressive assembly of historic passenger railcars spanning the heyday of luxury rail travel, as well as examples of contemporary railroad technology, will be on display together for the first time at the “Grand Centennial Parade of Trains” weekend May 11-12, 2013, at New York City’s Grand Central Terminal.
