Still smarting over fare hikes, Red Line riders yesterday were irked anew as they were forced to board cramped shuttle buses in steamy, 90-degree weather as a four-weekend-long signal-replacement project got under way.

Beginning yesterday, service on the Red Line from Ashmont to JFK/UMass stations was halted due to the project, which will create weekend diversions for a month. Many passengers, caught off guard by the sidelined subway, grumbled about their trips taking longer on traffic-snarled streets.
Here is your story.

This was planned months in advance during times that people aren't riding the line as often as would normally ride(September-May, or when UMass is in sesssion). THey are also posted in stations at least two weeks ahead of time so you have to try hard to miss the notices. Unlike the Braintree or Alewife segments this line actually has significant bus support with frequently running routes heading to major points in the city so there are options available.

Basically, it's a hack job. People are just complaining to complain because they don't want to have to be inconvenienced for a few minutes.

And really, a better routing for that lady would be Commuter Rail or taking the 22 to Ruggles and transfering at State to get to Wonderland! Whoever goes via the Red Line during a bustitution is just asking for a long delay.
