Amtrak By the Numbers, published in 2011 by White River Productions, is a comprehensive roster of Amtrak motive power and passenger cars from May 1, 1971 through May 1, 2011. This page provides information about major roster changes since May 1, 2011, such as renumberings, retirements/dispositions and new acquisitions. Due to the fluid nature of equipment changing from active to inactive status and back due to damage and repairs, such changes will not necessarily be listed on this page. The overall number of each active car type will continue to be provided on the main On Track On Line roster pages. Data is organized in the same order as the book, i.e., first by major equipment type, and then by vehicle type. If the listing of the vehicle type is not a hyperlink, that means there are no updates for that particular vehicle type.

Heater Cars and Power Cars
Confirmation has been received that the Heater Cars assigned to the 1916-1921 series did operate from 1975 until 1977 with those numbers. Thus the "Other Notes" for those cars can be deleted.
